Rationale:
In today's fast-paced world, grief is a universal experience that affects individuals in profound ways. Whether it's the loss of a loved one, a job, or a significant life change, navigating the complexities of grief can be overwhelming and challenging, especially to those who experienced it for the first time. When experiencing grief, people often go through a range of intense feelings such as sadness, anger, guilt, and confusion. Many people find themselves struggling to cope with these emotions, leading to the development of unhealthy coping mechanisms which cause more harm than healing. Understanding why individuals may resort to these behaviors is crucial in designing effective interventions such as a grief-focused app.
After conducting a user research, there are some insights that could lead some people to resolve the destructive behavior. One of the primary reasons why people may fall into bad coping mechanisms when dealing with grief is the overwhelming nature of the negative emotion itself. Grief can be felt everywhere and every time, leaving individuals feeling lost and unable to cope with the intensity of their negative emotions. This sense of being overwhelmed can lead to a desire to escape or numb the pain, which may manifest in unhealthy behaviors such as substance abuse, excessive spending, or emotional eating.
CAPSOUL is a compassionate and user-friendly app that is also designed to provide solace and support for individuals navigating the challenging terrain of grief. There are 3 main features and 1 side feature that could help individuals to cope with their feelings better and much more healthier. The first feature is called CAPSOUL The Memories, where users can store any important and meaningful memories of their lost ones. In this feature, users can also choose whether they want to set it as time-locked and share it to other people. The second feature, CAPSOUL To The Sea is where users can write letters to seek comfort, advice, or express their feelings through words and media. They can either throw or find a capsule - and both would be just users communicating anonymously so that they can share about things that are hard to say in real life. The third feature is CAPSOUL Of Emotions. This feature focuses to encourage users to reflect on their emotions and progress, fostering a sense of self-awareness. There are journal prompts to help users to express their feelings and thoughts. There is also a mood tracker to visually represent users’ emotional changes over time. Lastly, Positivity CAPSOUL is the side feature in the app. This feature displays uplifting messages and motivations for an encouraging start to their day. Through this app, it offers a safe digital space for individuals to cope with their feelings better, store memories, reflect their thoughts and express their emotions openly and without any judgment.

Video Walkthrough:
*The video walkthrough is more than 2 minutes because there are lot of CAPSOUL pages and contents that needs to be shown. I have asked my lecturer's permission to upload this length of video. This is because if I speed up the video walkthrough too much, it will make the video to be distorted and glitchy - which is a little bit unpleasant to the eyes and takes away a lot of information.

Self-Reflections:
Throughout this project, I would say it felt like a rollercoaster. During ideation week(s), I was moving pretty fast because I was very determined on making my idea to work. So, I would say I had a lot of fast progress during that phase. When it finally came to project initialisation, I have to take it slow because I am using multiple softwares at the same time - including learning 2 completely new softwares. It was pretty overwhelming, and I felt like I was kind of overworking myself to make everything happen. Perhaps, I was aiming too much for perfection. Nevertheless, I learnt a lot of things; from learning new softwares, levelling up my UI/UX prototyping skills, to improving myself as a designer and individual.
I would like to say thank you to my lecturers, Linyew and Louise for this opportunity to have my own independent project under my name. I would say that I'm very proud with the outcome of this project, because I managed to do all these independently regardless of how complicated and hard it is. I would also like express my gratitude to Linyew and my friends who are always there to help me and give their piece of their mind when I'm struggling with this project. It definitely motivates me a lot and I wouldn't be able to go through this without their support. There is definitely a room for improvement, and that will always make me to move forward to become a better designer and individual in future.
